Monocle is an international consulting firm specialising in banking and insurance and each year, the company offers a select group of high potential students the chance to experience life at its bustling head office in Sandton.
This year, Monocle will welcome interns from the 7th of July for an intensive one-week programme, filled with opportunities to explore the breadth of our work and experience our lively company culture.
Most importantly, our interns will have the chance to get to know the range of personalities that make up our team, from C-suite executives to our newest analysts, who recently completed Monocle’s highly competitive Graduate Analyst Programme.
Many of these young professionals began their journey with us through the Internship Programme, where they made a lasting impression, giving them a rare opportunity to jumpstart their careers in the financial services industry.
Last year’s interns have stressed the value of not only gaining exposure to Monocle’s work, but also quickly gaining a sense of belonging in the company through the Internship Programme. “I engaged with individuals across the business, and this was integral to my transition to full-time work – when I arrived at the office on my first day, I had the confidence of already knowing so many people,” says Raphael Voyiatzis.
This sentiment is echoed by Ryan Ramiah who states, “Everyone was warm, welcoming, and always willing to make the time to grab a coffee and chat about anything, from their personal journeys at Monocle to advice for the future. That culture of openness and care, together with the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience and to connect with my fellow interns, who quickly became lifelong friends, made the entire experience incredibly enriching.”
As a new fully-fledged analyst at Monocle, Modjadji Francis also highlights the appeal of engaging with fellow interns from diverse academic backgrounds, which provides ample learning opportunities that are further enhanced by interacting with industry and subject matter experts at Monocle.
For Kopano Lephalala, balancing the opportunity to gain exposure to the working world with social activities such as quiz nights and light-hearted competitions not only made the programme enjoyable, but also helped to create a genuine sense of community.
The analysts also highlight the long-term benefit of the programme, which provided all-round preparation for when it came time to take the first big steps of their professional careers and contribute to Monocle’s projects as full-time employees.
“When I left the programme, I was more confident in myself and in my capabilities,” says Diella Dean, “This experience forced me to grow as an individual while showing me what can be achieved within a supportive environment.”
